Newborn Photography of a baby girl and FAQ

October 26, 2012  •  2 Comments

I am so happy to share these cute newborn portraits that I took a month ago of a newborn baby girl. Baby  Rose was only 5 days old when her parents brought her to my small studio in Concord. The weather was beautiful and they preferred to bring the baby to me instead of me going to their house. The other thing is that I took maternity portraits of the mother and she already felt comfortable with me and letting me photograph her newborn. My newborn photo sessions are done on location and it's by client's preference. If the client choses me to go to their house I do that for the parents convenience. Especially, if you are first time parent you might be over protective sometimes about your child and you don't want to bring your newborn outside of the house in the first 2-3 weeks. or you have beautiful natural light and inside space and you feel that this is the right location for the photo session.

Yes and babies smile since the minute they were born. 'The first baby smiles are called reflex smilesBabies give fleeting smiles as early as birth and even smile in their sleep. But, according to experts, this is a reflex action or survival instinct similar to other newborn reflexes like rooting and sucking. These first reflex smiles are innate and are believed to make newborns more appealing to keep them safer.'http://www.babyzone.com/

FAQ

When is the best time for the newborn photo session to be done?

In the period between the 5th and the 14th day after the baby was born. This is a life time opportunity where the moment shouldn't be missed. Also, this is the moment when we can capture those peaceful sleepy times and all the small curly poses. Babies double in size from birth to four months and after the 14th day they get easily disturbed. You can never get that stage back. And don't forget that every child is different. With my personal experience as a photographer some newborns are pretty awaken during the day time right after the 7th day of their birth and that's why I do recommend for best results to do the newborn photography around the 5-7 day.

How long does the newborn session last?

The newborn session is up to 3 hours. This allows you plenty of time for feeding and to get comfy. The newborn is sleeping a lot and we don’t know when is going to decide to stay awake and what his/her mood will be.  That’s why I dedicate and try to spend more hours with you and your newborn and be able to get all the necessary shoots of this such an exciting moment for your family.

How should I dress my newborn?
The photo session could be in both - with and without clothes. The idea is to capture the newborn in his/her organic form and shape. Bring some cute props like hats, socks, and anything that you think is sweet, adorable and elegant for your child. It is all up to you what you want your cutie little one to be dressed with for his/her first professional modeling. I can always help you with the selection of clothes and I can also bring some additional props and outfits to the photo shoot.

The newborn was wearing pink tutu and pink ribbon on her hair.  This outfit was my suggestion to her parents as a symbol for breast cancer awareness. That shot was inspired by the work of my friend photographer Bob Carey - The Tutu Project

The images that the parents seemed to like mostly are those of them together with the newborn. Moments that are unrepeatable and so beautiful.
